My Children will be blessed!

Psalm 112:1-2 "Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who delights greatly in His commandments. His descendants will be mighty on Earth; The generation of the upright will be blessed."

My children will be blessed!
My children will be blessed-
according to God's Word!
My children will be blessed-for God has committed Himself to bless my children!
My children will be blessed!

Writing on the wall...

How to Remove Pencil Marks from a Wall

Steps:

Step One
Erase pencil marks with a clean, white, art gum eraser.

Step Two
If you don't have an art gum eraser, make a paste with 2 tbsp. baking soda and a bit of water. Rub mixture into the pencil marks with a clean, white, dry cloth.

Step Three
For stubborn stains, rub the area with toothpaste (non-gel) on a clean, white, dry cloth.

Mami! Mami! Mami!

What? What? What?
Three different voices in three different places...calling out for me...Mami! Mami! Mami!

Moments like this, I have to stop and remind myself this is what I have prayed for...I am blessed...And then say a little prayer thanking God for the blessing He has entrusted me with and asking him to give me the patience and grace to respond with when feeling I'm torn in three different ways!!! God is good and He always provides a way...

Thank you Father in Heaven for entrusting these precious children to me and to Benjamin. May we bring them up according to how we feel you would have us. Give us wisdom and knowledge to discipline and teach them in Your ways. Amen.

Missing Papi!

Today, we had another good day-even though, me and the boys were a little sick and had to miss church today. We hung out at the house until this evening when we went to Pizza Hut. Before we went to the Hut, the boys both let me "pUnK uP" their hair! Andrew's was so cute! Last night, when I cut his hair, I left the top just a tad bit longer...anyways, got a pic to show you...not sure if it will do it justice. When we were leaving Pizza Hut a family walking in, made comments how cute--I love it! And Andrew says, Macho Guapo! He's right...he's a cutie! Diego likes his cuts too.

Today, Andrew scraped his knee when I let them go outside (for just a few minutes!), and Tatiana came in consoling Andrew. It was precious! "Be careful, Andrew; it's okay, Andrew." It's kindof funny when one has an owie, the others try to find one on them and point to it seeking attention too. They all love band-aids.

We all miss Papi. He comes home on Friday. Spoke with him yesterday. He is doing well with the team in India. They were to be preaching on Sunday, and the rest of the week in various towns, visiting the orphanages, and speaking with more Pastors. The Pastor's conference went well with about 1000 Pastors. We are ready for him to come home now...5 more days...

There is so much that happens within the day; I wish I had time or could remember it all to share with you...well stay tuned...more posts in the future...God willing!

Today was a good day!

That's not to say that all days aren't good days, but today, it was a REALLY GOOD day! We started our day before the break of dawn. I guess the kids are accustomed to getting up for school on weekdays that Saturdays will be the same from now on...Diego was the first to get up and some how we all ended up in Mami & Papi's cama snuggling and watching cartoons til 8 am. Then we ate breakfast, and the children watched some more Saturday morning cartoons while Mami cleaned. I was able to rearrange furniture, mop floors, start laundry, do dishes, and get the children dressed with no major tantrums!!!

Later, we went to the Blu Rabbit in Alabama to play for about 2 hours. The children were tired, because I allowed them to skip their ciesta- which is a real big thing for me, because I try to be real consistent with their scheduling, but since their Papi is away, I wanted to do something fun with them so they wouldn't be totally bummed. I took some school work with us and in-between running thru the castle, Andrew and Tatiana did some worksheets. Andrew was great! I wish I had video of him helping Diego climb up the castle. He would jump down and push Diego up each level, because Diego was not tall enough to climb over. They played well. I sang one liner songs ALL the way home because I didn't want ANY of them to fall asleep.

They got home and played outside for a little while, they all had sock hats on. I took pics; I thought they were so cute. Then we had supper, and baths. Andrew and Diego got haircuts. Andrew worked on the computer on Starfall. Diego and Tatiana sat on the couch watching and repeating what the computer said. It was great. They all got along so well! Then, we had milk & cookies! I showed them how to dip their cookies in milk. I should have taken a picture of that...maybe next time! Then, it was brush our teeth, get a reading book, and off to bed. The boys were a little loud, and didn't sit thru the whole reading, but we were able to pray and they both went off to bed right away!!! Tatiana and I read and prayed, she went to sleep right away as well.

Sweet...now, I've got dishes and more laundry, but the house is quiet, and Diego hasn't even got out of bed tonight, like usual (He sometimes makes 4 - 5 trips to the bathroom before he drifts to sleep!)...

CHI Colombia Program Coordinator

To the lady that gets it all together...and can keep it all together...that blessed woman- THANK YOU! You will never know the power that your words, sweet thoughts, simple acts of kindness have had on so many people. Thank you for being obedient to the calling that our Father has given to you...thank you for hanging in there when things become monotonous and frustrating...thank you for knitting my family together, and being with us through each step...You have had an eternal impact on our lives...and we are forever indebted. May God bless you abundantly, and give you wisdom and strength to endure as He has called you for this purpose this day.
I would like to share with you her comments sent to me in an email when I had stated I wouldn't mind having a cool job like hers:

It is cool. And at the same time it is the hardest job I could ever have. I constantly deal with changes in agency policy, in US governmental agency policies (like changes at CIS or the Hague convention implementation), as well as changes in Colombian laws and policies. Most of my job is administrative, paper shuffling, and translating, punctuated by assignments from time to time and then the rush to get people ready to go. I think my job probably sounds more "glamorous" than it is!

But the bottom line is that this is what God has called me to do. It's not just a job for me. It is a calling. So I do it the very best that I can and ask for his wisdom and assistance in all of it because matching children and families is way over ALL of our heads!

Wow...please pray with me that God strengthen Julie and the team and all those, even within adoption agencies elsewhere to move by His Holy Spirit and to do according to His will and work as it is their calling; please pray that wisdom would abound and favor given where necessary, and that this work not be forgotten and God bless each of them and their families...thanks.

Julie-- YOU ARE AWESOME! WE HOPE TO MEET YOU SOME DAY!!! WE WILL COME TO OREGON...WE WILL MEET! THANKS SO MUCH AGAIN; MAY GOD BLESS YOU!

Papi Goes to India...

Papi left bright and early this morning to go to India on a mission trip. He will be leading a Pastor's conference there with 6 other people. This is the fifth year he has participated in this mission. The Bishop in charge of this particular ministry in India actually started an orphanage in his own home which now holds about 600 orphan children. He has also started smaller orphanages within the community in which men he trains up as pastors take care of in their homes.

Andrew was a little upset last night crying when he finally understood, or at least we think he understood, that Ben would be leaving for a while. This morning, however, he took it upon himself to give Diego a "Pow, pow!" I think Andrew has tried to step into that parent role again. Andrew must be given strong boundaries, and when they are unclear he will push every button and test you to see if you give...being consistent and follow thru works well with Andrew.

I am so proud Andrew. Can I brag about him just a minute? The teacher has said he is one of the smartest kids in her class...he is so smart!!! He is able to identify all the letters of the alphabet! He knows their sounds! I am so proud of him! Tonight, he did several worksheets. He is absolutely brilliant. I wish we had a computer for him to work on and do learning games. Maybe that will be something we work towards next year...when Tatiana can use it too.

Tatiana continues to try to do a cartwheel. She is becoming a little jumping bean! She is also becoming more particular with what she wears. She will ask Andrew if it is "Molita" or "Feo" before she decides if she will wear it. Tatiana absolutely loves school. Ben and I had contemplated taking her out of school this month. We have weighed the plus/minus factors. We have decided to evaluate it month by month. She really enjoys it, and the social element is so good for her now.

Diego, he is healing much better now. The swelling is finally going down. There is still some discoloration, but we are glad there is improvement. God is faithful, and now, I won't have to stress about infections and them cleaning it appropriately, etc...(whew!) Diego has honestly become more testy lately...more tantrums...over nothing and everything! Sharing is a big character trait for both the boys to work on...Tatiana has almost no problem with that...and really the boys don't have a problem sharing with their sister or other people -just with each other?!?!

Well, they are such a blessing to us. I know that this ten days will be hard on Ben, too! This is the longest he has ever been away from the children. I anticipate difficult times as well...as Ben won't be available to call "9-1-1 Papi come home!"--So, pray for all of us...we can make it work...maybe this is the needed time I need with the kids to earn that trust and respect from them? Just a thought...well thanks for listening...

Who's that peepin' through?
(Poor Diego...he stepped in some ants before we finished taking pics and we had to strip him down to his undies in the car, and he cried some kind hysterically until we got home.)

CHI Crew in Colombia!

This is going to be a very exciting month for us as a family! We have been praying for some of our Children's Hope International friends who are going or have just been united with their forever families!!!

These families have set up blog sites like mine to document their travels. It is quite exciting to follow along and helpful as we continue to pray for them. We also have some friends who are still waiting to travel or are waiting for official referrals. Their blogs are also encouraging to me as their strength encourages me...if you'd like to check out their blogs to learn more about others' experiences or just more about adoption in general, check out my friends!!!

Those who are in Colombia now:
Jennifer who is adopting Nataly
Rena & Nate who are adopting a sibling grp of 4!!!
Erin & Don adopting an infant boy
Those who are in the final stages before travelling:
Rick & Genece adopting a sibling grp of 3!
Joel & Sherri from New York adopting infant boy
Those who have been united with their forever family and have returned home:
Dan & Karen Baker who adopted sibling grp of 3!
**China Adoption!***Don & Denise adopted infant boy!

The Adoption Community, I believe, is one of its own. There is a bond and a closeness that I have been able to have with numerous different adoptive and prospective adoptive Mamis that I have not had before that provides a strength and comfort that makes it difficult at times for those outside of the circle to understand, but encourages me as we share stories together of similar instances and brainstorm different approaches, and pray together. Before I started this journey, I told Ben and several others I believe God is going to raise up people around us to help us as we experience the new world of parenting...and he did, not necessarily from people we know, but yes, some people we know, but also, people far away, people we've never met, people only the Father is able to network! Isn't God great at networking the family together? Thanks for "My Circle" God...thank you for those Yahoo Girls who commit to praying on Monday nites, thanks for the CHI peoples who have encouraged me and given me advice when needed. Thanks for my mom for helping out; thanks for raising up a people to carry out your promises...Amen!

God is good! If you have time, check out some of my friends' blogs. They are fun and interesting!

To Circumcise, or not to Circumcise

Wow, this could really be controversial...but for all those who are questioning--we got several professional, medical opinions, and the physician deemed it as a medical necessity for both boys.

I am not certain if I had two boys at once if I would do this again simultaneously, however! Andrew has practically fully recovered! Praise God! He has returned to school, with restrictions on PE. Diego, on the other hand, is scheduled to see the doctor for a follow-up tomorrow. Still a lot of swelling. We can't seem to get him to sit down long enough...although, it is not as swollen as before...we will again get the doctor's opinion on what we need to do or if we need to be concerned tomorrow...

There have been very supportive parents on the Yahoo group who have encouraged us and gave us tips along this journey. Thanks, to all of you. We appreciate your advice.

The nite of the surgery Tatiana also got a fever. We took her to the pediatrician the following day. All three sick at one time. My mother said I have been officially welcomed into Motherhood. Anyways, Tatiana is much better; as well as Andrew! Diego...he is truckin' along!

Nana and Papaw sent Diego a schoolbus toy in the mail for his birthday. He has been riding it and rolling it all thru the house. And he refers to the driver as Papaw!! I don't know if he knew that Papaw really does drive a school bus...but he loves it, Papaw!!! Thanks so much! It has entertained him a while...the books, playdoh, and tv were SO...shortlived!!!

Well, please continue to pray for his recovery, I will keep you posted! Thanks!

Owie! Owie!

Today(October 11th-dated post), the boys went to the outpatient surgery center in pajamas bright and early this morning to be circumcised. We did our best to explain to the boys ahead of time what was going to happen. The staff was very nice and good with the boys. I did make sure we were in the recovery room as each of them were rolled in and we could be there when they awoke. Diego was kindof groggy when he awoke. Andrew did better, and tried to reaffirm Diego that it was "okay." The boys like the new look. They haven't had too much difficulty thus far. Andrew has thrown up once. Diego has no problem holding food. Andrew wants to go outside and play. (I think that is the drugs!) The doctor said that would

(The nurse that was doing the aftercare actually shared her adoption story. She had adopted two children in foster care. She was interested in participating in the concert benefit we are having for Children's Hope on National Adoption Day in Pascagoula!)

They both have "chi-chi'd." Andrew has thrown up once; Diego no problem holding down food. We took a long nap after getting home, and now they are watching Leap frog alphabet videos. The doctor expects they will bounce back quickly!Just wanted to thank all of you who have been praying for us today! It wasn't so bad. The boys did great. Please continue to pray that swelling and pain be minimum with a quick recovery. Thanks so much!

A Perfect Flip!

Can you guess which of the three amigos can perform a perfect flip?

1-2-3 Go, Diego, Go!!!

Tatiana has came home from Preschool/Daycare and showing her brothers things she learns at school. She is so funny as she tries to do what looks like a cartwheel. She also showed Diego and Andrew how to flip. She has a little difficulty still. But, Diego flips perfectly! He is such a quick learner too. Mami tried to show them all--had to move the furniture! I am sure that was a funny site.

All of them have began dancing more. When we first recieved info about the children, the report indicated they all liked dancing, but they played shy until now...guess they are feeling more comfortable now! Andrew likes to dance with Tatiana. I can tell that they danced together before. I haven't seen Andrew flipping a lot. He likes to play outside on the swing set, bicycle, or with the soccer ball. He is really a fast runner! Also, concerning running--Diego is not wobbling like a baby anymore; his gait is much more stable, and he is getting much faster...he can almost keep up with Tatiana! They are so precious!

10.06.2007

Diego's Day!

Today, we celebrated Diego's 3rd birthday!

We had some friends and family from our church to come and celebrate with us.

The children played on the swingset, kicked the soccer ball,
had hot dogs, and helped Diego open presents...

I think Papi was right...Papi said that Diego would like his present best of all...
Can you guess what Ben got Diego???

Prayer for the Orphan

"...You are the defender of the orphan...Lord, You know the hopes of the helpless. Surely You will listen to their cries and comfort them. You will bring justice to the orphans and to the oppressed, so people can no longer terrify them."
-Psalm 10.14, 17-18

These children live in Florencia' Colombia, in the city where our children were born. They are in need of a school. Our interpreter, Carlos, is working at raising funds to rebuild a schoolhouse so that they can go to school. Please pray that God connect him with the right people and the school and all other needs be met as he pursues this project.

This project is only going to cost about $5,000! This is it. You can see there is no real shelter from the rain or weather. With the money they will build walls, and can afford a couple of computers, and more...The children in this area are very poor. When he took us on a cab drive through this area, it was heartbreaking. Many children were running around alone and unsupervised. The poverty was evident as you saw the children beg for food. One precious child even came up to Ben and nudged his arm, hoping that Ben would give him his scraps...We really are spoiled people here in America, even the poor here have a place to go...have access most times to a hot meal--there was no Salvation Army in Florencia'.

Before you sleep tonight, please pray for the children and families in this region. Pray that God draw them to Him, and that he hear the cries of their hearts and raise them up with a heart after Him causing a radical change in their environment. Some of these children will go to sleep on the streets tonight...scared and alone...please pray for them. Thanks!

Awe Man...

...Seems to be Andrew's phrase of the week! Diego has even picked it up!

Today, Ben met with Andrew's teacher, Mrs. Forehand, at school for our first official parent conference with the teacher. It is something I guess standard before the end of the first 9 weeks. Guess what? She said Andrew was one of the smartest kids in class! She said that even despite the English barrier, he has caught on quickly. When other students seem to be struggling to figure something out, Andrew has already got it solved...said he was sneaky-in a good way---a good problem solver! True, he is! Also, she said that many of the kids consider him their best friend. He is an all around kid in the classroom.

Whew! What a relief! When we started school, we had a few bad days and even an office referral. I really believe it was the difficulty with the language. Andrew was attempting to speak English and we couldn't understand him and the language he did know, we couldn't understand! Poor guy....but thank God, he is adjusting well. Good at counting, ABC's...we continue to practice at home after school. I don't want him to be behind if I can help it. Mother is helping a lot after school, and Ben and I also work with him when we get home.

God is good. And we are blessed with Andrew. I thank God for allowing me to be his Mami...and giving me the nuggets of joy by simple phrases like, "Awe Man..."

Orphan Soul Concert: Raising Adoption Awareness

Big News! Big News!

Orphan Soul, a well-known, local band, will be having a benefit concert on November 17, 2007 at Church on the Rock in Pascagoula, Mississippi. The concert starts at 7 pm! The tickets are only $5, and a love offering will be collected. All benefits/proceeds go directly to Children's Hope International to go toward surgeries for orphans who need cleft palatte and heart surgeries!

If you are local, please come and celebrate adoption with us and help us raise the banner high bringing more awareness to the impact adoption has on our community, our state, our nation, and our world through the body of Christ! You can contact Worship Center or Church on the Rock for more details. I will have contact info available later for the churches.

Statistics say, right now there are over 145 million orphans in the world...and by 2010, it estimated that it will more than double!

Check out some of these other alarming statistics:
  • At least 16.2 million children of the world have been orphaned by both parents.
  • More than 800,000 children pass through the American foster care system each year. Over 20,000 teenagers age out of the system each year...
  • Ony 4 percent of families in the US (1.7 million families) contain adopted children.
  • On average, children waiting for adoption have been in foster care for 48.3 months, over 4 years!

What can YOU do concerning this rising crisis? Not all are called to adopt, but there are ways for you to get involved in caring for the orphaned child...thru mentoring programs, sponsoring an orphan, as well as helping a prospective adoptive family through financial means...Consider adoption today! Consider the impact YOU can have on the next generation...

More concert details to come soon!

Little Benjamin!

Abuela bought the children some clothes, and this is one of Diego's new favorite Disney outfits. Beamie bought him a Tigger & Pooh hat, also!
This is our "Character!"

Many people say Andrew and Diego resemble Ben in many different ways!
Diego may look like Ben, but he sure is a "Mami's Boy!"

Letters to God...

Since before I was married, I knew I wanted to adopt. However, when my sister had her first baby, I knew I wanted to have a child, also. When I got married, my husband and I had discussed this many times. We had discussed trying to first have our own and then adopt. I felt like we needed to adopt first and then follow it with our own. At any rate, we had to both be in agreement if we were to choose to adopt. So, I ceded with my husband and we tried getting pregnant.

It was fun when my sister was alive. We would have girlie-sister conversations about such. Many conversations we had that were just between us. We had hoped to get pregnant together. We wanted to do "Pregnant Sistas" pictures... However...I feel like now, that God had a different plan for us both...

My sister passed away; she left behind two of her most beautiful jewels, Kaleb and Ainsley. And Ben and I began to pursue adoption after God gave Ben several different confirmations that this was part of the journey we were to follow...we started the process on our fifth year wedding anniversary, and in nine months, four days, we had not one, but three beautiful children to call our own...

But in the midst of this whole process, I had began to pray for my children. Initially, I thought it would only be one...and we had discussed adopting a little girl. During that time, I began writing letters to God. I began being specific and requesting certain physical traits and personality characteristics, and so on...

After, my sister passed away, my pursuit of God concerning the adoption was half-hearted. I was distracted by a lot of different things going on. It was right around that time that God spoke to us about considering a sibling adoption in an effort to keep a sibling group together. Wow, God, really? Are you sure?? Ben had a lot more questions than I had, but I knew I had heard Him clearly. Can we handle 2-3 when we did not know how much work one was? No.

His answer was, "No, you can't do it on your own. I am raising up a group of people around you to gird you up in the time of need. You will not be alone."

Many other things were spoken to us and words in the past that were brought to remembrance, especially when someone would ask, "How are you going to pay for this?" My response was, "If it's God's will, he'll foot the bill!"

Are you sure? "Absolutely." Do you have any idea what you're getting yourself into? "Not a clue!"

Colombia? Why Colombia? Ben felt very strongly that God directed us toward the country of Colombia for several different reasons, including some prophetic words spoken over him many years prior.

So, we plunged headfirst! And God, and our adoption agency, CHI, was with us every step of the way. Even during the time of sorrow and grief that I was experiencing in November, CHI was there to offer support to us. And even now, after the adoption is final in Colombia, CHI remains involved in our lives thru emails.

Getting back to the letters...I wanted to tell you that it is important to be specific when you are praying. Whether it is for your child, your spouse, your future---be specific! Someone had given me a book called, "Supernatural Childbirth." It discussed the importance of praying specific things relating to the child's health, physical and psychological traits. I did that for my daughter!

As I brushed Tatiana's hair this morning, I told her that I was so lucky God gave me her as my daughter. I said, "Tatiana, do you know you are the very daughter I prayed for? You are everything, Mami asked for...did you know that?" She just looked at me and smiled and giggled...She is everything...She is smart, beautiful, olive-tone skin, soft, wavy curls, gentle, likes to be girlie and play dress up, loves to shop, but likes to play, too, loves her family and pets, obedient-requires little to no redirection...a little clumsy, like her Mami, but a Princess all the same! It's moments like these that I remember God's awesomeness. It's moments like these that help make waiting for an answer from God worth the waiting for. It's moments like these that I don't want to forget...It's promises like this one, I'll never forget!

Thank you, Father for all you've promised me that has come to pass and that that is yet to come! Thank you for your endless surprises! You are awesome even when we don't understand...even when things don't go our way...You have our best interest in mind...thank you, Father for keeping us in the palm of Your hand throughout all of this, and for bringing and raising up others around us to support and encourage us in this time. Help us to be a support and encouragement to others who are travelling down similar paths. Continue to speak to us as we follow your command to care for widows and orphans. Thank you, God for calling me your daughter! One other thought, Tell Shanda, "I did it! I did it!" She told one of her friends she thought we'd never be able to afford this adoption thing...well, we couldn't, but you did...you provided. Also, let her know that I might not can outdo her, but we're gonna have some stories to share when I get there!!! And tell her to watch out for all the balloons that my children are sending her way...that we love her and miss her so much...Andrew and Tatiana go outside and pop balloons sometimes to get her attention...anyways, we will be sisters forever, thank you father, for blessing me with Shanda for all this time. Help me to remember the positive things she has instilled in me. Help me to be a voice for her when needed in her children's lives. Help me to remember things to share with them when they get older that me and Shanda shared as siblings. Thank you, God for even raising up new friends in my life that are like sisters to me to help me during this time as I still grieve for her. In Jesus' name.

Thanks for trailing with me...not certain where all this came from...but it has seemed therapeutic. God bless...more to come later.

Uh-oh...

We told a lie... Andrew for some unknown reason yesterday did not want to take his lunch to school. We fixed it anyway. When I dropped him off yesterday morning, I was sure to tell the Kindergarten assistant that he may get upset at lunch time and want to eat, but he's got his lunch. Well, he told his teacher when he got to the room, "No lunch!"

At lunch time, he got in line with the others and got a tray!!! Knowing that Mami and Papi had put together his lunch that morning! When he got back to class, the teacher reported that he went to his cubby and pulled out his box and said, "Lunch!" with a big smile.

Hmph! Well, how do you say, "No lying, Andrew!" in Spanish? Well, I tried to tell him by giving another example and just repeating "No lie, Andrew..." I tried to explain that he hurt Mami and Papi, but it also hurt God's heart when we lie...and it would not be acceptable. He had no television once I got home. We did our homework, ate, and took a bath, read a book, then Bible and then bed by 7 p.m. They usually get to stay up til 8, but not when we lie or misbehave!

Well, today, I came home from work and Andrew ran to me and said, "Mami, Mami...bueno!" He put his hands on his lips to hold up each side showing me he got "Dos" smileys, and then he blurted out in excitement, "Mami, no lying!" I praised him and told him how happy I was...

No lying, no more...

Lying- why do we find ourselves being tempted to lie at times? What would cause us to lie? Is there some underlying root to it? Where does the deceitfulness come from? Is it selfishness, pride, what? And isn't it interesting that you don't have to teach one so young to lie...and interesting as well, that even at such a young age, they know it is wrong...

As I watch my children and pray that I bring them up the way the Lord would have me, I ponder about how so many adults that I have encountered were raised up...and have no conscience about such...I wonder what happened? Where did it come from? What feelings are behind those untruths? Is it someone who is really scared? afraid of the truth? afraid of consequences? have they been betrayed or hurt? a defense mechanism of some sort? delusions?I suppose there are many reasons one would tell a lie...

But, it is my desire that me and my house serve the Lord, and it is not pleasing to Him...I want to raise my children under the fear and admonition of the Lord, and I hope Andrew, Tatiana, and Diego all know that Mami and Papi are serious when it comes to lying...I really think the "No, TV." works well with Andrew! Please continue to pray that God teach us how to deal with our children in a way that they are always directed toward the Lord when corrected or disciplined. Thanks!
