Amazed...

Andrew continues to amaze me! Tonight at dinner, he began to say his ABC's. With each letter he gave the sign for it! He was even helping me with some of the letters that I had forgotten like "r" and "x". I believe one of his teachers at school has taught him this. Awesome! We really have been blessed this year by Mrs. Forehand and Mrs. Patteson! Thanks, teachers; You rock!

I've heard of getting your picture taken with Santa or the Easter Bunny, but...

Who's had their picture taken with Jesus before???

We drove by the Catholic school in town and saw Jesus and Mary hanging out on the front lawn, and thought this would be a great day to stop and get a picture--there were no long lines, actually no one was around!

Anyone else had their picture with Jesus lately?

I showed Ben and asked if he would take a picture of me and Jesus next time; he laughed and was surprised no one came out and told us to stop harassing Jesus and get off their property! Ha!

The Written Word...

Oh, my friends, we are loaded down with countless church activities, while the real work of the Church, that of evangelizing and winning the lost, is almost entirely neglected.

For the past two weeks, our family has been passing out tracts. We have started a "Spontaneous Evangelism Team" at our church. We started two weeks ago and will meet once a month. Our first task was to pass out tracts, either to people or to strategically place them in places.

We decided before we had children that we wanted to evangelize as a family and that we wanted our children to see us share Jesus with others as well. Well, we split up in teams and went out! Ben and Andrew hit the local banks, placing tracts in the overnight bank deposits! Tatiana, Diego, and myself went to Wal-Mart and a few other places and placed tracts all over the stores! Another guy from Church was also at Wal-Mart doing the same thing. Ben went later that day to buy a fish tackle box and guess what was in the box!?! A tract that our friend had placed! So, people are getting them! These tracts are getting in places, in homes that we could never get in! Our prayer is that these tracts be a tool God uses to draw the people in our city to Him. Do it, God!

If sinners be darned, at least let them leap to hell over our bodies. And if they will perish, let them perish with our arms about their knees, imploring them to stay. apple seeds

A word to Ben: You may know how many seeds are in the apple, but you don't know how many apples are in the seeds...

This was something spoken to Ben when Bro. Milton Hill began sharing at our church a few weeks ago. He began sharing how making a difference in the three little lives that we adopted into our family is going to make a generational impact that we don't even realize! I love it! That is something that Ben and I really believe. I believe that my children are going to represent the nation of Colombia in Heaven. I believe my children are going to win souls for the Kingdom! I believe they are going to fall madly in love with the Savior, Jesus Christ and follow Him with all of their heart! Yes, I believe it! And, I know we still haven't gotten to the core of our family apple and there are seeds yet to uncover or find! Thank you Jesus for your promises!

Mission 1.27

"Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you."

This is the house that the Hills' are trying to purchase in Colombia for the Daycare Project in Coronado, Colombia. It is approximately 1000 sq feet. Small in size, but what makes this property so valuable is the amount of land that comes along with it. You see, most houses are built on small lots with NO outdoor space, but this house has plenty of room outside on the side and in the back for adding square footage to the building, plus have ample room to fence in a secured play area for the children. You will seldom find areas outside for the children to play. The only times you see playground equipment is usually at city parks.

The cost of the house is ONLY about $13K, and of course, there would be costs for remodel and keep up. This is so cheap! To be able to provide a multipurpose building to care for the children during the day, provide them protection from the elements, feed them, and give them spiritual and educational training, AND then use this property as a church in the evening time!!! WOW! $13K is NOTHING for God's people! I believe this was a "God-inspired" idea for Coronado; I believe God will provide the resources for it.

God has strategically placed Bro. Milton Hill in this area for this time and this purpose. Please pray with me that He have favor with all those he come in contact with and people will begin to catch the same vision as he and begin to also support him!

Also, Brooke, Bro. Milton's wife, tells me that Compassion International in Colombia has considered helping them as well, and may begin to help them feed the children and also provide a small offering to the future workers at the daycare! God is good!

This picture as well as the very first picture are of a little girl around age 7 from Florencia. She and her mom and 3 other siblings left Florencia after her Mother's husband was kidnapped and later found dead. This family's house then burned down. I am not certain cause of fire. The family left Caqueta and went to stay with the grandmother who lives in Coronado. Milton says now, "...they have nothing..." I cannot wait to get there to hug this baby girl!

Brooke says she was working with the children one service and asked them,"What should we name ourselves?" (the children's church). The baby pictured above said, "How about 'Children of the King' because that's what my mother says we are." She is so smart! She IS a daughter of the King! A Princess! I can't wait to meet her and her mom and siblings! Please pray for this family. This baby represents the orphaned child. This is ONLY ONE child...there are many out there.

Coronado, Colombia -Hill Ministry Video

In this video, you will see some of the faces this family has chosen to stand in the gap for, chosen to leave their life of comfort here in the States for...to give these people hope. The faces of the children and their living circumstances leave me tearful at times as I think of my own children and what circumstance they were rescued from. God rescued them before we ever knew them...

Each face has a story...each life has a meaning...please join with the Hill Family and pray for these people and their families. In this area, Brother Milton Hill hopes to purchase a plot of land with a building on it and turn it into a daycare in the daytime, free of charge, and then use it as a church in the evening time to reach people with the Gospel of Truth! In this area, parents often leave the children home alone from 5am to 3pm to fend for themselves. You will see a picture of Baby David found lying face down on the dirt floor. Less than a year old...left alone....pray that Bro. Milton have favor with people in our area, people in the country of Colombia and that others will help him create a safe place for these children, that Brooke, his wife, be equipped to teach these Mami and Papi's how to parent their children, how to care for them properly. This is also one of the areas in which the Hills' give out bags of groceries to the people. They give out a week's worth of groceries to needy families regularly. God is awesome. Please pray for continued provision for all the ministry needs for this family, as well as wisdom and safety!

I am really excited to be able to get to take part in another Colombian adventure! We hope to make a family mission trip to Cali-Palmira-Coronado, Colombia this winter! Andrew is so excited! He has been saving his money very seriously! He is up to $96! I told the children they each had to save at least $100 to help with the airplane tickets! Andrew wants to go back. It is neat to visit with the Hills'. Our children play together and I remind Andrew every so often that one day we'll get to play with them at their house in Colombia! And he usually replies, "Colombia, tomorrow?" Ha! He is precious! Well, I would love to know your thoughts, so please comment!!!

At last, we have video! This is just a glimpse of some of the ministry the Hills' are doing in Colombia near Cali! I love the music. How true it is--that GREATER THINGS WILL BE DONE! What is so neat...these people are not dependent upon us, they need God! But what can we do as a people group to help? We have one life; we must do something! We CAN make a difference in the life of an orphan...We can make a difference in the life of another...step out and do something. Missionaries to Colombia -The Hill Family

Who are they?
Milton and Brooke Hill with precious daughters Isabella (almost 4) and Victoria (2).

Where are they?
Palmira, Colombia (approximately 45 minutes outside of Cali, CO)

What are they doing?

Since they have moved from the States, they have started a church in Palmira, Colombia and are beginning to reach others in nearby cities.

"Our church is very outreach oriented and in the last 6 months we have grown from about 18 people to 105...God has been so amazing and given us opportunities and ideas that no one in our city has seen before."

"We had an outreach to pass out refreshments to people who had to stand in line all day long to receive free government insurance. We passed out free water and gospel tracts and by the time we were done we had people coming up to us asking if we could pray for them and basically pouring out there lives to us and asking for help."

"We made sandwich platters and took them to the police and firemen in our city to let them know that we are thankful for the work that they do to keep all of us safe and they were amazed that someone would do that for them and it was a great way to share the love of God with them."

"We were so blessed to have Book of Hope come to our city (bookofhope.net). They partnered with our church and God opened the doors to go into all the schools in our city with the Word of God in a format that is age appropriate. In a little over two weeks we went to 39 schools and passed out almost 40,000 books. That is 40,000 children who received the Word of God and we have seen the fruit of that. We have teachers and families coming to our church because of that. Thank you Lord!"

"The last project that we had before we came to the states this time was a free christian concert in an area called Coronado that we are starting to minister in. We put on the concert in the streets and presented the gospel to the people. We had about 200 in attendance and 40 people gave there lives to the Lord. After the concert we passed out 84 bags of food to families in this area. Each bag contained all the essentials that a family would need for a week to eat."

A quick post-

to let you know we had a great time meeting with the Hill Family last night. It was more like a time of fellowship...we did discuss some major needs in the area, and I have copies of the DVD slide shows. However, having difficulty downloading them. They must first be converted into a file that either YouTube or GodTube recognizes. So, I can't wait to get those posted for those of you who haven't been to Colombia. I believe your heart will melt. I will post more about the Hills' tonight even if I can't get the videos downloaded. If anyone knows of trustworthy downloads that I can use to convert the files from BUF and IFO (I think), please let me know. I am very cautious after the last computer problem I had. Thanks. Notes from the Teacher's Desk...

"Yesterday we were talking about big and little. The class had to tell me something that was big and guess what Andrew said - for big he said "Papi's belly!"

It was so cute, because he was so proud to say Papi. But, I told him I did not think Papi would like that so much. Just thought I had to tell you, but I really dont think Papi would want to know! Ya just got to love the little kids! "

What's stopping up that toilet!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, how long has it been since our toilet's been out of commission? Haha...too long! Six people in the house, we need more than one toilet! But we have survived...

Tonight however, Ben removed the toilet from the Bathroom and did some investigating...stuck in the bottom of the toilet was...not a Diego toy, BUT a Tatiana hair clip...hmm, maybe all the Diego toys maybe it to the pump?

Ben could not remove it from the hole in the bottom of the toilet. I encouraged him to try to break the clip into small pieces; he then asked ME! if I wanted to try --I quickly declined and agreed we should buy a new toilet!!! Yea! Progress! Another trip to Lowe's tomorrow, and hopefully with a little grunt and grime, Ben will have us a second functioning toilet!!!!

Tomorrow, we also plan to meet the Hill Family for dinner after work, and the kids will get to play with their children. I will discuss more about their ministry then. Thanks for staying tuned-

PS. If you notice the first pic, you will see the trash can full of green shrubs! I drove up to find Ben sticking them in the can...he had dug up a whole row of shrubs...I was disappointed, but it's a new look and will be easier to maintain (no weedeating!)...

The Hill Ministry in Colombia

Today, we had a great service...it began with some awesome praise and worship...and then Bro. Milton Hill shared about his ministry work and how God was moving in Colombia. His work is actually right outside of Cali, Colombia. Recently, he has been doing a lot of work in Coronado! He showed a video in which I will post later this week showing the children and people in which he is ministering to...It was neat to hear him speak...he spoke with much sincerity and compassion.

I will post more later this week. We plan to meet up with his family again. I will have another family photo (once scanned) along with their contact info (email & address) if you are interested in contacting them to learn more about their ministry work in Colombia. Our family is working with Kingdom Works International, and we plan on doing a family mission trip later this year. The children are really excited and are saving their money to help pay for a plane ticket!

Owie! Nobody saw me, did they?

Today, I had an exciting day at work. I was able to help out on the psych unit and when I left, I encountered a family that apparently were waiting or had just received news about a loved one who had had surgery...I tried to walk by being respectful to them and tried to go unnoticed...

...well, I walked maybe 4-5 yards away when I went KER-PLUNK!!! I went spread-eagle in the middle of the hospital hallway...so much for going unnoticed! (I don't even want to imagine what I looked like! I calmly got up and used self talk to try to convince myself of no pain as I limped to the nearest double doors!!) Saying all that to say, I had planned to try to get mucho bike miles in this weekend to get a jumpstart on my 60-Mile Challenge, but doesn't look like that will happen as rain approaches and my ankle throbs! Ben laughed at me, as he is all too familiar with ankle injuries! Today, he went fishing with Dennis and he is like a lobster! In 1-2 days, though, he will be dark-skinned just like the kids...that is, until you lift up his shirt!!! Ha!ha!

The kids had a great day with Beamie today...and we hopefully will have a quiet weekend. We are having the Pastor from Colombia come and speak on Sunday and plan to meet with him to discuss teaming up with his ministries and setting some tentative dates for this fall or winter for a trip back to Cali! I have some names of a couple different orphanages in Cali that I would like to ask him about and then follow-up with Julie from CHI.

Today, Tatiana got a beautiful surprise in the mail today! Through CHI and the blogosphere we have been connected to an amazing group of fellow believers that have encouraged and supported our family in more ways than they will ever know!

Today, we got a cool print from fine artist, Denise Sullivan! She is also an adoptive mom who adopted thru CHI-China Program! Her work can be found in several different gift shops including Hallmark. If you read closely, this print says, "If I go to the bottom of the deep, I will find you." Psalm 139. I love this Psalm...we cannot escape the presence of God...wherever we are, He is! Thank God for His faithfulness. I have put this print in a scrapbook frame on Tatiana's wall not just because it is a cool design, but also as a reminder to her-- that she cannot escape the love of our Father; that He will never leave her; that even in the low times, the difficult life struggles she will face, He will be there when she calls upon His holy name! I love it! Thanks, Denise!!!

Picture: This is part of one wall in Tatiana's room. Initially, we only had one scrapbook page framed and that was one with her referral picture with her name and "I love you" written in several different languages (upper left). I love to scrapbook and once the children came home, I really enjoy photography. Tatiana is very photogenic and fun to photograph! So, I found some more scrapbook frames at the craft store for like $4-5 bucks! You can't beat that! So, I had this bright idea to decorate using scrapbook pages, and once she gets older (like each year) I can replace them with updated pics and pages! So, I'm a little challenged on hanging pics, as you've noticed! So, how do you fix that? Well, make them intentionally crooked, right? Ha, ha...that's what I did...I think it looks pretty cool. If we straightened the pics, I'd go crazy, because they aren't symmetric!

A Haircut-like in Colombia!

"Andrew, let's cut your hair really short like in Colombia, yeah?"

Here's a picture after the cut and a bath...You can't really tell, but it's really short! (just saved 10 bucks by cutting it myself; Ben still doesn't trust me in cutting his hair!)

Ok, well maybe I still need to trim around the ears a bit!

que pasa padre?

or what is happenin' Papi? ew!!! still having plumbing problems! Ben decided to try to fix it himself with the help of some chemicals...he has been digging out in the front yard the past few evenings after I get home...so far, he has found lots of "Diego" toys, including several items of clothing from his build a bear outfit! (So, that's where all those belts went!) So, needless to say that toilet is still out of commission. Money has been tight here as Ben is still having problems with his truck. We just spent a $1k on it last 2-3 weeks ago, and now it is making "that same noise!" again! So, we are being challenged to be creative in budgeting and balancing now...I was reading some emails from the fundraising group about how to save money around the house- just some practical tips...think I might be implementing a lot sooner than later. That tax refund will definitely come in handy to play catch up! Please expedite our paperwork Father! (Never hurts to send a little prayer up, does it?)
We have been playing board games more! We would go outside more if the mosquitos weren't so terribly bad. The weather has been great here this past week. We're gonna have to pull out the mosquito torches again...just don't think it's fair to keep the kids all pent up in the house...they need to run and stretch. For Andrew's birthday, he got a soccer ball goal. All of them love to kick the ball toward the goal. Ben and I have even had fun trying to keep up with the kids! They are so much fun...and that Andrew--my goodness, he is SUPER fast! Tatiana is a doll...she cracks me up how she runs! And, Diego is catching up...he is such a funny character!

Egg Boats

I came home today to learn the children made "egg boats!" Andrew was very excited. Tatiana was describing the eggs using her hands. Diego was equally excited! Beamie had the children help her make stuffed eggs today...also known as deviled eggs (wonder why, deviled eggs? where did that name come from?)...

They were yummy good! We even left Papi a few. He doesn't come in until late on Wednesday nights. We haven't tried to make Wednesday nights since Andrew has started school...it's just too hard with dinner time, bath time, and doing homework with Andrew.

the weekend in a nutshell...

Friday came and went like a whirlwind...we had invited a couple of families over, but had to change plans and go to one of their homes instead...because of plumbing issues. We only have two bathrooms. One the children use as well as company, and ours that is attached to our bedroom.

We suspect a gremlin did something...OR maybe it was Diego that stuffed something in the toilet! We've had to save a poor dinosaur from getting flushed away once...this time, both dinos have been accounted for and we just aren't sure if it is something that was flushed or if it has something to do with city plumbing. Ben is going to call the city water tomorrow, before we have to pay for a plumber to come out...for now, everyone is trekking thru our bedroom to potty.

Anyways, we had fun playing Family Feud at my friend Jill's place. The kids loved hanging out with their kids, and said today they wanted to go back to Josh's. They usually run on overload when they visit a friend. It's like visiting a toy store to them. They often destruct the child's room and then at the end of our visit we try to put it back together! Ha!

Saturday nite, Ben went to a men's fellowship and I had planned to go to his mother's home and surprise her with some framed pictures (once married with children, photos make great gifts!) Well, got the children all dressed and ready to go and could not find my keys anywhere!!! How frustrating! My MIL says I never come over, and I really was going to go over last night...however, turns out...my keys were locked in the Suburbie!!!

Sunday, church...nap, bike ride...had an interesting bike ride--that's another post for another day...Anyways...I have been a little discouraged about the weightloss/mile challenge. Last month, did not make the 60 miles...close and then got frustrated with no weight loss and just quit. I could have completed it...but just chose not to. I am going to try it again this month. We'll see what happens...I have been watching "I can make you thin" on TLC, and that's just depressing to me...people make it sound/look so easy---whatever!!! And then someone at church said something similar to one of my blogging buddies about their new hair-cut (a short one)--they felt more energized...I'm thinking, do I want to go shorter??? Well, the battle of the bulge continues...I have a ticker along side the blog to indicate my success or lack of...there are some other blogger families who are also challenging themselves to do the same...it's really a win-win, even if you don't see the scales change; you are moving your body and being active, and that is always a good thing! A FOCUS Student

Mrs. Forehand chose Andrew as her Focus Student this year to fulfill a requirement of a special project with the Moss Point School District. We were invited to a special dinner recognizing the teachers and their students last night. It was fun as we got to eat and learn more about his teacher and her family, as well as the classroom, school, and school district. Below is part of what she shared last night.

Student Portrait

My focus student is a kindergartner named Andrew Wood. I choose Andrew because he came to me speaking no English. He was adopted from Colombia eight weeks before school started. I chose Andrew because I thought he would be a challenge to teach. I was wrong!

During the beginning of the school year we had very few situations where Andrew could not communicate effectively. Although he did not speak English, he was very bright. I had originally told his parents not to worry about the normal objectives the kindergartners would be working on such as letter recognition and reading, but rather speaking English and socialization skills.

As the year went on, Andrew picked up on everything we did in class. He also has been blessed with wonderful parents who worked with him at home. Not only has Andrew learned to speak English, but he is also one of the best readers in the class. He has drastically exceeded all the goals I had set for him at the beginning of the school year. Andrew has turned out to be as “normal” as any student in my class. He has even been on the Superintendent's list for the last two nine-weeks! His ability to adapt to so much change has really been an inspiration to me and everyone he has came into contact with.

1 little foot, 2, 3 little feet, 4, 5 little feet, 6....

Ok, just a blurb to explain the feet photos--

No, I do not have a foot fetish! The pic on the side bar is a picture of the children's Christmas shoes. I thought it was neat because of the little feet in the pic. The children were so excited about their new shoes...I said, oh, let's take a pic! When I was looking at the picture, I noticed how my two older children stuck together and even their feet were placed side by side...and then, I noticed Diego's foot. Diego stood alone; yet, it was his foot that overshadowed theirs. To me that was significant. Ben says, "Can't a picture just be a picture?" Well, maybe...but I see something more...

See, Diego's name means supplanter, one who takes over. Diego is a strong-willed child. The meaning of that name could be both good and bad. My thought that was that even though he may stand alone in situations as he grows up, that he will be an overcomer. When he is faced with an adversary, even two or more, he will overcome...and this picture was just a reminder to me, that Diego was going to be a strong man in the Lord. To you, it may be just a picture...to me, it is a picture with meaning.

Most people who have a child have a birth certificate with baby prints and such. For those of us in the world of adoption, we don't always have those special documents and memoirs to look back and then to give back to the children. When we became a family, they weren't babies anymore...so the picture of all the feet is something that I might give them when they do age to give them an idea of size, etc. But again, it means more to me than just that...these are the feet of history makers; these are the feet that make my heart go "pitter-patter"; it's these feet that I love to hear stomping in the afternoon, or tip-toeing as they sneak out of their room to avoid going to bed! These feet are the fruit of answered prayers...promises of God. These feet ARE significant to me. These feet are beautiful to me. To you, it may just be a picture...to me, it is a picture with meaning.

More notes on being a God chaser and a kid chaser...

My hunger for Him is too great to be contained in a single church service or the few moments I can steal away with Him each day…God takes as much pleasure in our small daily sacrifices as He does in one great act of service.

“And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” (Col. 3.17)

“I would love to pursue God more fervently, if…if only I had more time…if only I had more help…if only others were more thoughtful…if only my family didn’t take so much of my time…if only they would do right.” The “if only” list is virtually endless, but it almost always includes “if onlys” related to jobs, spouses, children, and the church. If only…

If you are committed to the chase, somewhere along the way your “if onlys” will become “in spite of.”

There will always be distractions…and there will always be God. And God will always be bigger than distractions.

I matched the chores with specific people until each person in my life was covered in prayer. Surprisingly enough, the chores were no longer drudgery, and time seemed to fly by!
