Today: A Conversation with T.

T: Mami, were you adopted?

M: No, baby...but I have a sister and a cousin that were.

(the conversation went on as I explained about my step-sister being adopted by my father, and my cousin adopted from Romania.)

Then minutes later...

T: Mami, when I was with my birth mami, I prayed for a white mami.

M: You did?

T: Yup!

(Silence for a moment, not knowing how to respond...)

T: Mami, is Papi white?

M: Yea, he is. Did you pray for a white Papi, too?

T: Yes, and a strong man...

I hope we convey to our children that color doesn't make a difference, but that God chose us, chose them to be part of our family, their parents.

It is interesting that they are noting the differences in their skin color. I've heard conversations commenting about arm/hand colors a few times in Sunday School between different children. We have a multi-cultural/racial church setting (or whatever the politically correct term is), so it is really a beautiful thing to see the children connect across cultures, races, and sexes praying for each other and loving on each other... that is something beautiful!

Anyways, thought it was a neat conversation...to just think that Tatiana was praying for a family. I know reality, she most likely was not; didn't even know to pray for one...but even still, to think she might have been praying for me...awe... AND, now, to think, possibly that there is some 6 yr old or close to it, girl in Colombia, praying and wishing us to bring her home, give her a home...awe...

I just love the little glimpses they give us into what is going on in their heads. :)
